SRH Sets a Challenging Target for RCB
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India] May 23: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased an impressive batting display, scoring 231 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Friday.
RCB's stand-in captain, Jitesh Sharma, won the toss and chose to bowl first against SRH.
Opening the innings for SRH, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head attacked the RCB bowlers right from the start, reaching a 50-run partnership by the fourth over.
However, Lungi Ngidi of RCB managed to dismiss Sharma for 34 runs off 17 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. Ishan Kishan then joined Head at the crease.
In the next over, veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar took out Head for 17 runs off 10 balls, who had hit three boundaries. Heinrich Klaasen then came in to support Kishan.
SRH concluded their power-play at 71 for 2. Klaasen, after hitting three fours in the 9th over, was dismissed for 24 runs off 13 balls, bringing Aniket Verma to the pitch.
Verma made a significant contribution with a quick 26 runs off just 9 balls before being dismissed by Krunal Pandya in the 12th over, which included three sixes and a four. Nitish Reddy then joined Kishan.
SRH crossed the 150-run mark in the 13th over, with Kishan reaching his fifty in just 28 balls, marking his first fifty of the tournament after scoring a century in SRH's opening match.
Reddy's struggles continued as he was out for just 4 runs, courtesy of Romario Shepherd. Abhinav Manohar then entered the game.
Manohar, after a brief innings, was dismissed by Shepherd in the 17th over, leaving SRH at 188 for 6. They crossed the 200-run mark in the 18th over.
Ultimately, SRH finished their innings at 231 for 6, with Ishan Kishan being the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 94 runs off 48 balls.
RCB will now need to chase down a target of 232 runs in their innings.
In terms of bowling, Romario Shepherd was the standout bowler for RCB, taking 2 wickets for just 14 runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ngidi, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya each claimed a wicket.
